For the man-made fibre industry (MMF) in India, its disgruntlement is turning into unceasing aggression. The reasons are many: China exports 65 per cent of manmade textiles out of its exports of $650 billion while India´s share of manmade textiles is hardly 20 per cent out of its exports of $40 billion.
Bilateral collaboration and technical exchanges between United States and India in technical textiles are planned as a part of the United States and India strategic and commercial cooperation. S Senthilkumar, President, ITAMMA in his welcome speech mentioned that Government of India has recently proposed a drive in favour of indigenous manufacturing and taking several policy decisions to make its ´Make in India´ campaign successful; where changes have been made in import and export duty structures as well as excise and other areas which will help the textile engineering industry to make the business at ease.
