During April-December 2020, output of MMF declined by 18.2 per cent y-o-y to 1,319 thousand tonnes on a cumulative basis. The production had fallen sharply in the initial 3 months of FY21 due to COVID-19 induced lockdown restrictions.

During CS 2019-20, cotton production is estimated to have increased by 13.6 per cent to 6 million tonnes during CS 2019-20 on account of higher yields backed by favourable monsoon conditions.
Going forward, the textile industry scenario will depend on how the situation evolves in the domestic and international markets and faster return to normalcy will enable the industry to curtail the damages and improve on its growth prospects.
