Workers of over 3.5 lakh powerloom machines in industrial areas of Ved Road, Katargam, Varachha, Jholva, Laskana, Varachha, Bhestan, ?and ?Bamroli ? in Gujarat? , who were on strike for over 20 days called off their agitation following settlement over wage hike.
Industry sources said that the workers and leaders from the Federation of Gujarat Weavers’ Association (FOGWA) held talks to reach at an amicable solution. The meeting ended successfully as the workers agreed on the wage hike of 10 paise per meter.
The production of unfinished fabric was badly hit over the last 20 days due to the workers’ agitation. The weaving unit owners had decided to shut the units for an indefinite period and not buckle under the pressure from the textile workers.
The textile sector is passing through a tough phase. It is difficult for the weavers to offer wage hike to the workers. Still, the weavers have accepted the demand in order to prevent the migrant workers from going to their hometowns.
