Lenzing, Austria

The Lenzing
Group has welcomed the issuance of the guidelines to implement the Single-Use
Plastics Directive. In the guidelines, EU Commission has mentioned which
product falls within the scope of the directive.

The guidelines
provide clarity in the fight of the EU member states against environmental
pollution from plastic waste. According to Robert van de Kerkhof, Member,
Managing Board, Lenzing Group marine pollution is one of the biggest problems.
So, the group welcomes the measures given by the EU Commission to reduce
certain single-use plastic products. He added that the group has been investing
in developing innovative and sustainable solutions for the industry and will
continue to work towards achieving systemic change in the circular economy.

The Single-Use
Plastics Directive given by the EU commission believes in uniform labeling on
the packaging of the single-use plastic products starting on July 03, 2021.
These include wet wipes containing plastic and feminine hygiene products.

As per Jürgen
Eizinger, Vice President, Global Nonwovens Business, Lenzing, the issue of
hygiene is important and more so due to the prevailing epidemic conditions. He
also added that with the Single-Use Plastics Directive, consumers will make
more informed choices. Lenzing‘s VEOCEL fibre is a natural solution for the
global waste problem today. The products that have the VEOCEL brand logo is produced in line with
stringent certification criteria. So, it is clear that the products are made up
of biodegradable, cellulosic materials.

The company’s
market position is strengthening and shareholder value has increased as it is
engaged in developing sustainable innovations and implementing climate
objectives focusing on carbon neutrality.
