Kerala textile outlets hit despite lockdown relaxation
Though textile shops in Kozhikode are open following lockdown relaxations allowed by the state government, the footfall remains poor. The public is yet to get used to the concept of online shopping and home delivery.
Kozhikode, Kerala
Kerala state
government had announced lockdown relaxations, a week ago, which allow textile
outlets to be open for sales. Despite this, the textile shops continue to be in
severe crisis.
Textile shops
were permitted to be open for three days a week for online shopping and home
delivery. The people shopping for weddings were allowed to visit the shops for
an hour a day.
But, the
footfalls at the shops remain poor and the public is yet to get used to the
concept of online shopping and home delivery.
Textile shop
managers say that people find it difficult to determine the quality of the
dress or saree materials through photographs. They added that sales were quite
low and just enough to cover the expenses. Repaying loans and paying suppliers
was a concern.
Due to this,
shop managements have reduced their staff strength. The sales staffs at textile
shops are anxious about their future if the lockdown continues.
