Bangladeshi terry towel exporters need lenient norms

Terry towel manufacturers and exporters in Bangladesh are demanding easy rules for importing yarn through land ports because of the rise in prices of raw material in the local market.

As per the letter sent by The Bangladesh Terry Towel & Linen Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BTTLMEA) to the commerce and finance ministers and secretaries, and the National Board of Revenue (NBR) chairman, the main focus was on this topic. According to M Shahadat Hossain Sohel, Chairman, BTTLMEA, there are a lot of work orders from international brands and retailers so they need yarn at competitive prices. He also said that the local spinners are facing difficulty in supplying yarn at competitive prices due to which they may lose the work orders. He added that the owners of the factories who do not have bond licenses should be given the opportunity to import yarn at competitive prices.

It was also demanded by BGMEA, the BTTLMEA that the government should allow the import of yarn from India through major land ports, like Sonamasjid and Bhomra. According to these bodies, the government should also improve the conditions of these ports, come up with more warehouses, and provide better storage of raw materials like cotton, yarn, and fabrics. As per Monsoor Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer, Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), there is a need to sit with the stakeholders to discuss the issues related to the prices of yarn
