J H Shah, Trustee & President (2010-11) known as Jineshbhai was felicitated with “Life – Time Achievement Award” by the Guest of Honours and all Office Bearers and members of Managing Committee of ITAMMA.
As ITAMMA celebrated its 81st AGM, Bhavesh Patel,President, ITAMMA said, “I am proud to state that ITAMMA is transforming digitally and also has created a marketplace and ecosystem with the support of Sambuq.com to help our members to grow in the today’s challenging GLOBAL Market of Sustainability and Responsible manufacturing.”
The association strives in finding new avenues of activities to assist members in order to boost their competitiveness in the domestic as well as international markets through technology upgradation, quality improvement and cost-effectiveness. Thus the Association has transformed its role as a proactive partner rather than only as a facilitator with the implementation of digitalisation and smart working.
N D Mhatre, Director General (Tech) in his opening remarks informed that “As we all know that today, we are in an era which is driven by fast paced technological developments, demanding high level of creativity and innovation. It’s a time that demands responsible and sustainable developments rather techno-commercial developments in the textile machines and accessories which can be accepted especially by the very important stage of the User Industry i.e. Garmenting, Retail and Fashion. Today through digitalisation and AI one can easily track the details of flow and operations of fibre, yarn, fabric upto garment, retail and fashion stage. Thus connecting the manufacturers and processors of textiles (fibre, yarn, fabric) and machines/spares/accessories with garment, retail and fashion industry for information and requirements of the goods as per global market. Anil Singhee, Managing Director, Addon Holdings. Delivered his Guest of Honour speech on “How the Textile Machinery and Accessories industry moves forward to fulfil the expectation of the Garment, Fashion and Retail Industry.”
Singhee informed that it is important to Understand the chain of Machine Manufacturer (Maker of the machine), Fashion Designer (Designers of the product), Garment Manufacturer (Creator of the products from the machines), Retailer (End consumer touch point). Also it is necessary to know the Thoughts about the chain, where Machine Manufacturing is a process driven exercisewhere the efforts are towards creating a device that is able consistently do the activities day in day out. They are driven based on calculations and standardisation. While on the other-hand Fashion Designing is driven primarily by creativityand the efforts are towards creating something neweach time. Thus this blending of two oppositesis what makes this textile industry a very exciting space which has a unique place for the country’s growth.
In regard with Potential he said that Bharat’s garment manufacturing sector still has a large scope to expand driven primarily by huge domestic consumption and further supported by export possibilities. We are yet to create a Global brand from Bharat but we are still paying a premium for brands from the West. On the contrary we have the Engineering talent and the worker base, and so we need to set a longer-term vision.
The need of the garment industry is a leapfrog in terms of Sustainable initiatives – which demands for creating machines to Reduce water usage, Efficient energy usage, Minimise material wastage, Create safer and ergonomic work environment, Recycling and up cycling, Faster support for spares and customisation, be customised to make use of Smart Manufacturing especially using 5G and IOT.
This will be a great steps towards Automation & Digital Integration to increase visibility across the chain Enabling faster decision making and thereby bringing in efficiency.
While looking Way forward, at all scales we need to start thinking about investing in R&D, especially creating an edge on customisation of existing machines by upgrading them. Keep listening to your customers for their feedback and then follow a continuous improvement cycle. Apply a Modular system to enable faster reconfiguration by reduction of lead time in manufacturing, faster response to changes of the market, reduction of Inventory levels, Manufacturers to take lead in creating an ecosystem. The New age manufacturing is Seamless Garment Manufacturing, On Demand Manufacturing, Printing and Customisation (especially at the Retail level), Folding Machines General thoughts can be applied where Our Machine Manufacturers should increase their exposureby visiting Global eventsto understand where the opportunity lies for us, Even today majority of the machines from the simplest to the most complex of the machines are imported or assembled. We need to focus on creating sophisticated machines and leading after sales service.
ITAMMA needs to take initiative in creating a “Sample Industry” like Real Estate industry shows a “Sample Flat” showcasing all the processes end to end and the capabilities, whereby use of Virtual Technology can be made.
At WHEF, we are trying to get the Textile Industry shifted from Heavy Industry category to the Garment Industry so that there is a renewed focus and benefits from the Government to help sustain and grow this sector.
To sum-up/conclude, Key actionable is to Invest in R&D, Listen to your customer, Keep upgrading by increasing exposure, Focus on Sustainability & Smart Manufacturing, Develop an ecosystem and Build your brand.
