International Apparel Federation (IAF) decided to host to the 34th World Fashion Convention together with the Dutch fashion and textiles industry association Modint in the city of Maastricht in the southeast of the Netherlands from 9-10 October 2018. The decision was taken by the IAF Board of Directors last month, during the 33rd World Fashion Convention in Rio de Janeiro.

The IAF is a federation uniting fashion industry associations, brands, retailers and major suppliers to the industry. Through the Convention, the IAF offers a place for the fashion industry to meet, to be informed and to be inspired by top national and international speakers.

The city of Maastricht is an excellent backdrop for the 34th World Fashion Convention, according to organisers. It is a fashion conscious, smart and creative city with a strong international character and in close proximity to world class logistic and material science hubs. Here, a new type of fashion industry is coming to life: more interdisciplinary and with a bigger focus on technology and on sustainability.

“As a city and as a region we are glad to contribute to the success of this Convention, mainly because it helps to position internationally the fashion industry and the creative industry. These industries are both well established in Maastricht. It is exciting to see Maastricht feature alongside such host cities as Mumbai, Hong Kong, New Delhi and Shanghai,” said Jurgen Moors, director of the Maastricht Convention Bureau.

The Convention itself will be held in the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Maastricht. Visitors will be welcomed at the Maastricht townhall. The social highlight of the Convention, the gala dinner, will take place at Chateau St. Gerlach.
