In 1996, the embroidery company Brands Polska sp. z.o.o. in the village of Somonino, near Gdansk in Poland was founded and continuously expanded with new finishing techniques. In 2002, Brands Fashion GmbH was founded as a textile trade and service company in the town of Buchholz in Lower Saxony, Germany with an extensive network of suppliers in Europe, Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia and Pakistan.
The focus of brands on chemical management across their supply chains has traditionally been the ´tip of the iceberg´, that is, their direct contractual vendors. Their influence beyond direct vendors (the Tier 1 suppliers) has been minimal.
Severe competition on global level and lack of initiatives and direction on the domestic front have made a dent in India´s textile exports with a dip in figures for FY 2014-15, diminishing the scope of achieving the cherished goals. S Joseph & M Karthik take an overall look at the scene.

In Maharashtra, after the declaration of State Textile Policy, a total of 769 projects with investment of Rs 6,690 crore have been established. The investment have come predominantly into the developed textile machinery of spinning and weaving sector.
