Kitex to open manufacturing units in Kakatiya Mega Textiles Park
KCR to launch facility employing 40,000 in Kitex manufacturing units.
The Kerala-based garments major Kitex Group, had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State government less than two years ago. The company is now preparing to commence operations for a fibre-to-apparel manufacturing cluster in Kakatiya Mega Textiles Park (KMTP), Warangal.
It was mentioned that the facility would be inaugurated by K Chandrashekhar Rao, Chief Minister in the near future. Kitex Group planned to engage in various processes within KMTP, including cotton spinning, knitting, bleaching, dyeing, printing, cutting, and sewing. The company anticipated providing direct employment to approximately 22,000 people and indirect employment to 18,000 people.
KT Rama Rao, IT & Industries Minister, shared on Twitter that Kakatiya Mega Textile Park, spread over 1,350 acres in Warangal, is the largest textile park in India. The units of Kitex Group are preparing for their inauguration by CM KCR in a few months.
Furthermore, the foundation stone was recently laid for Youngone and Evertop Textile and Apparel Complex in KMTP. A Korean-based company, Youngone, aimed to establish 11 units within KMTP, which would create around 21,000 job opportunities for local residents.
Initially, Kitex exporters had signed an agreement with the Telangana government for an investment of Rs 2,400 crore in the state. However, the company later increased its investment proposal to Rs 3,200 crore to establish two garment units in Warangal and Sitarampur Industrial Park, Rangareddy. This decision came after Kitex Group had canceled its Rs 3,500-crore investment project in Kerala two years ago, following multiple surprise inspections by various government departments within a month.
After announcing their decision, Kitex Group received invitations from nine states in India and countries like Sri Lanka, the UAE, Bahrain, Mauritius, and Bangladesh. Additionally, the UAE and Oman provided the opportunity to establish a unit in the free zones with tax benefits.
The Kitex Group, initially known for manufacturing aluminium products like kitchen utensils and cookware in the 1970s, expanded into the production of spices, textiles, and bags. Over time, the company became one of the largest manufacturers of infant clothing in the country.
