The decision to allocate funds was made during the 6th Mission Steering Group (MSG) meeting of the National Technical Textiles Mission, which was chaired by Piyush Goyal, Textile Minister.

The Ministry of Textile granted approval to 20 research and development (R&D) projects valued at Rs 61.09 crore. These projects spanned various crucial areas such as geotech, protech, indutech, sustainable textiles, sportech, and buildtech segments. The decision to allocate funds was made during the 6th Mission Steering Group (MSG) meeting of the National Technical Textiles Mission, which was chaired by Piyush Goyal, Textile Minister.

During the meeting, Goyal emphasised the importance of international benchmarking, industry consultations, and demand assessment in identifying high-value and high-volume potential products. These efforts aim to stimulate research and innovation in the field of Technical Textiles in India. The Ministry of Textiles issued an official statement stating that the approved R&D projects encompassed geotech, protech, indutech, sustainable textiles, sportech, buildtech segments, as well as specialty fibres such as carbon fibre and ultra high molecular weight poly ethylene.

Goyal further suggested the collaboration of reputable private engineering colleges with Textile Research Associations (TRAs) or well-established government institutes. This partnership aims to enhance awareness, maximise the benefits, and optimize the utilization of the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM) Scheme, thus fostering a research and innovation ecosystem throughout India.

Additionally, Goyal reviewed the inter-ministerial exercise conducted under NTTM, focusing on the Mandation/Adoption of various Technical Textiles items. Meetings were held with the Ministry of Railways and Ministry of Defence to explore opportunities for increased utilization of Technical Textiles. On April 10, 2023, Quality Control Orders (QCOs) were issued for 31 Technical Textiles, including 19 Geotextiles and 12 Protective Textiles.
