Trump victory fuels optimism in the textile industry
The industry is particularly hopeful for higher sales of home textiles to the US.
Following Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election, Gujarat’s chemical and textile industries are optimistic about an increase in exports to the United States over the coming years. Industry experts believe the Trump administration’s likely focus on reducing dependence on Chinese imports could create significant opportunities for Indian exporters to expand their footprint in the US market.
The industry is particularly hopeful for higher sales of home textiles to the US, expecting that several American companies may establish operations in India as an alternative to China. This shift could strengthen India’s role as a reliable supplier for US-based companies seeking to diversify their sourcing and manufacturing bases.
Gujarat, which accounts for approximately 70 per cent of India’s dye manufacturing (including ), also anticipates benefits in the dye export sector. The US is already a major market for these products, and Indian companies are hopeful that a portion of demand currently met by Chinese suppliers will shift in their favour.
Additionally, an exporter noted that the strengthening US dollar, influenced by Trump’s policies, will enhance India’s global competitiveness, potentially increasing India’s share in the global chemical and textile markets. This currency trend could make Indian products more attractive to international buyers, further supporting export growth in the sector.
