Surat Textile Industry gears up with Rs 600+ crore investments in machinery

The SGCCI is actively working towards establishing Surat as a hub for textile machinery manufacturing.

Surat, the textile hub of India, is set to experience a significant growth spurt, as there are projections of an investment exceeding Rs 600 crore in digital printing and advanced embroidery machines. This surge in investment is a result of the successful Surat International Textile and Machinery Exhibition (SITME) 2024, which was organized by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) and the Surat Embroidery Association (SEA).

Ramesh Vaghasia, President of SGCCI, commented that the forthcoming investment in textile machinery would drive Surat’s garment industry to new heights. He mentioned that the recently concluded SITME exhibition saw an impressive response, with more than 20,000 visitors coming from different parts of the nation.

During the exhibition, a diverse range of machinery was showcased, ranging in price from Rs 13 lakh to Rs 1 crore. Exhibitors expressed optimism, with many expecting orders for four to five machines in the coming month.

One exhibitor, who had displayed four state-of-the-art embroidery machines valued between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 50 lakh, shared his experience. He stated that participating in SITME enabled him to directly connect with buyers from various Indian cities. He also mentioned that based on the genuine inquiries received, he anticipated securing a total of 26 machine orders within the next month.

He further explained that there was a strong possibility of receiving orders for 20 advanced embroidery machines, each valued at Rs 40 lakh. Overall, he anticipated securing orders exceeding Rs 10 crore within the next month due to his participation in SITME.

The SGCCI is actively working towards establishing Surat as a hub for textile machinery manufacturing, in line with the government’s Make in India initiative. Vaghasia explained that while Juki Company is establishing a garment machinery plant in Ahmedabad, Surat is also striving to manufacture readymade garment-making machinery. He added that the SGCCI’s efforts aim to benefit the entire garment industry.

This surge in investment and the SGCCI’s commitment to domestic manufacturing are positive indicators for the future of Surat’s textile industry. The city is well on its way to solidifying its position as a leading center for textile production and innovation.
