Rajiv Garg, MD of Garg Acrylics Ltd, was elected as President of Northern India Textile Mills’ Association (NITMA), the apex body of textile industry in North India. NITMA elected its new leadership team in its executive committee meeting held on February 1, 2017 at Ludhiana. Manish Bagrodia, MD, Winsome Yarns Ltd, was elected as SVP and Mukesh Tyagi, Director, BST Textile Mills Pvt Ltd, was elected as VP. Sanjay K Jain, the outgoing President, welcomed and congratulated the new team.

NITMA was established in 1958 and has been since continuously serving the best interest of textile units in Northern India and has been instrumental in creating a linkage between the industry and Government. Apart from providing critical inputs in policy making, it plays a very instrumental part in guiding the industry in all critical matters, dissemination of information and organising trade fairs and seminars. It also provides a bridge between the supporting industries (who are associate members of NITMA) and the industry. Its members collectively have a turnover upward of Rs 50,000 crore.

Garg joined the family Business along with his brother Sanjeev Garg at the very young age of 21.

He started handling steel business and then later diversified and ventured into textile business in 2000 and presently making his company as one of the biggest North India textile company with a turnover of Rs 1,500 crore and employing more than 7,000 people. Today, his company has a spindle capacity of 3,50,000, making it one of the highest in Northern India. He has been the youngest Punjab state VP of Jaycees and VP of Punjab Spinners Association, along with the many other laurels he was awarded Young Business Achiever award by Times Of India in 2009. In December 2013, he conceived the idea of bringing Entrepreneurs’ Organization ( EO), the only global network exclusively for entrepreneur’s, to Punjab.

Speaking on the occasion, Garg said that the industry is confronted with an uphill task of overcoming hurdles in domestic as well as international markets in post demonetisation scenario. He also advocated on adopting scientific approach for estimating cotton crop size and cotton arrivals by various agencies.
