German firm Freudenberg
Performance Materials has come up with a sustainable version of its
high-performance microfilament textiles with the help of Evolon. Freudenberg
Performance Materials, the leading global supplier of innovative technical
textiles, has a broad range of applications and markets like automotive,
apparel, healthcare, energy, shoe, leather, building interiors, and building
materials. The company has 33 production sites in 14 countries that offer
employment to more than 5000 employees around the world.

Evolon RE is
manufactured from an average of 70% recycled polyester that is made by
recycling the post-consumer PET bottles in-house. Evolon RE can be put to use
for technical packaging, high-tech wiping, and in weights ranging from 80grams
per square meter to 300 grams per square meter. Just like other Evolon
textiles, Evolon RE offers the same high and constant quality in terms of
cleaning, filtration, protection, mechanical, and textile.

According to
Jean-Francois Kerhault, Business Segment Manager, Evolon, the company has more
than 20 years of experience with Evolon technology. The technical team is an
expert in this demanding process. With the knowledge of the technical team that
the company is able to overcome the challenge of integrating recycled PET from
post-consumer bottles into the products, he added.

Evolon fabrics
are also quite durable. The products offered are a good substitute for
disposable solutions, washable, and re-usable. Evolon clothing clothes can give
the same performance even after hundreds of washings. The fabrics are also
light-weight.

Evolon was
launched in 1999 and since then Freudenberg has been continuously working on
increasing the sustainability of both the product and its production process.
The company had set up an internal reprocessing system for hydroentanglement
water in 2003 and it was also an early adopter of ISO 50001 in 2012 Freudenberg
has also been able to reduce its CO2 emissions because of its certified energy
management system. This new style of producing Evolon from post-consumer
recycled polyester is another milestone that the company wants to achieve.

It can also be
said that Freudenberg has been amongst the initial companies in Europe to
recycle used PET bottles. At present, the company is utilizing around 7 million
PET bottles a day in the manufacture of polyester nonwovens. By doing this the company is using waste as a prime raw
material. This not only reduces the burden of land-filling and incineration but
also replaces primary raw materials with the recycled polyester of the same
quality, thereby saving natural resources. It also helps in reducing energy
consumption which further results in less wastage and CO2 emissions.
