Smart textiles are fabrics incorporated with electronic components. They are used in various applications for monitoring, illumination, sensing, and communication purposes. They are also known as technical textiles or interactive textiles.
Textile chemicals are used to impart desired properties such as strength, colour, flame protection, etc. to fabric. These chemicals are broadly divided in two categories: auxiliaries and colourants. Textile auxiliaries are the chemicals used during each and every step of textile manufacturing process so as to provide certain characteristics to fabric, whereas colourants are used to impart colour to the textile products.
Chinese cotton imports reached an all-time low in September, as large domestic inventories reduced reliance on foreign supplies, at a time when economic slowdown is weighing on demand. China imported just 50,900 tonnes of cotton in September, a decline of 59 per cent YoY. This is the lowest monthly import since records began in 2005, and the second month of record low imports in a row.
The phenomenon of digitalisation and networking of the entire value chain ? Industry 4.0 ? is also gaining importance in the textile industry. H. Stoll AG & Co. KG, a long-established manufacturer of flat knitting machines based in Reutlingen, Germany, will present an innovative software tool for networking of machine parks with up to a thousand machines at the ITMA textile machinery show in mid-November.
The classic phrase ?mass production? hardly has any meaning for technical textiles any more.
