TAI appoints Vikas Gharat as President of Mumbai unit

Vilas Gharat has been appointed as President of The Textile Association (India), Mumbai Unit. Gharat is working as a Managing Director, having over 50 years’ experience in manufacturing function in all composite sectors of textile industry. Out of the 50 years, more than a decade has been in operations and HR with emphasis in business process consulting.


At present, Gharat is Managing Director of Gharat & Associates, Group Advisor with S Kumars, and President of TAI, Mumbai Unit. He has been business consultant for Oswal Hammerle for their upcoming state-of-the-art technology plant for manufacture of sophisticated yarn dyed shirting project, primarily catering to the needs of international garment manufacturers. This is a joint venture project of Oswal group and F.M. Hammerle (Austria). His previous assignment involves restructuring and transformation of large textile units.


Apart from this, Vikas Sharan has been named Vice President of TAI –Mumbai Unit. Sharan has had a distinguished career in the textile machinery and machine tools industry spanning more than twenty six years in India and abroad. He holds a Diploma in Textile Manufactures from DKTE Society’s Textile & Engineering Institute, Ichalkaranji, Bachelor’s Degree in Textile Technology from Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute (VJTI), Mumbai, along with a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM) from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Mumbai.


Sharan started his career as a Service Engineer with the Textile Machinery Division of Voltas, representing spinning machinery from Lakshmi Machine Works, and thereafter, worked his way up the sales ladder, becoming the Branch Head at Mumbai.


During the year 2002, Sharan was transferred from Textile Machinery Division of Voltas to its International Operations Business Group in Dubai to handle machine tool business for the next six years. He returned to India during 2008 and joined the A.T.E. Group as Vice President, handling the businesses of nonwovens, carpets, synthetics and circular knitting. During this time, he was also given the overall responsibility of Bangladesh operations of A.T.E. Sharan joined the Saurer Group during July 2017, as Director-Business Development and assumed overall responsibility of Saurer India on March 1, 2018, as Director-India Operations, which include the manufacturing plant at Vadodara, along with functions of Sales and Service, R&D, Product Management and other shared services of the company. He is a sitting Member of the Board of Saurer India as Whole Time Director.


Other members include: C Bose as President Emeritus, VC Gupte as Chairman, GS Nadiger as Vice Chairman, Rajiv Ranjan as Vice Chairman, AV Mantri as Hon. Secretary, RR Mehta as Jt. Hon. Secretary, Arun K Narkar as Jt. Hon. Secretary; and MB Nambiar as Hon. Treasurer.
