Pakistan’s textile export in FY21 has registered a growth of 18.9% and is currently standing at $13.7 billion. The same for May 21 registered a growth of 41.1% and is standing at $1.06 billion.

Pakistan saw 3.4 times increase in textile exports in April 2021. This growth was due to the low base effect in April 2020 when the first wave of COVID-19 affected industrial activity across the globe and in Pakistan.

According to US Census Bureau, exports from Cambodia to the US were $6.6 billion in 2020, which was 22.79% higher than that of last year. Q1 of this year saw total exports of $1.86 billion even amid stoppages.

The second wave of COVID-19 in India has adversely affected the textile sector in Tamil Nadu, especially when the export demand was high. Further, the textile hubs of Tiruppur and Coimbatore are worst affected.

The provisional data of the Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council revealed that the exports of readymade garments and manmade textile declined by 20.78% and 21.20%, respectively. The final data is expected by May end.

The first four months of the current year have been profitable for Vietnam as there was an increase in the export of textile and garments. As per the Ministry of Industry and Trade, it has earned over $9.5 billion in Q1.
