The members of Surat-based textile associations met the city police commissioner to request for relaxation in the lockdown measures. The state has extended the lockdown restrictions till May 12 to contain the spread of corona virus.

In the wake of the migration of one-fourth of textile business workers and curfew restrictions, Surat’s textile industry reports a fall of 22% in fabric production as compared to last year.
The pandemic has led to a decline in the production capacity of textile industries in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Gujarat, among others. It has also resulted in reduced demand for textiles across the country.
