The members of Surat-based textile associations met the city police commissioner to request for relaxation in the lockdown measures. The state has extended the lockdown restrictions till May 12 to contain the spread of corona virus.

The Gujarat industries and mines department gave an adrenaline shot to the textile sector by declaring its “scheme for assistance to strengthen specific sectors in the textile value chain” policy, which will be valid from September 2018 to December 2023.

City-based textile processors have tied up with state government-owned Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA) and Man-Made Textiles Research Association and Man-Made Textiles Research Association in south Gujarat, including Surat.

The Government of Gujarat is planning to come out with a new textile policy before the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, which will take place in January, announced the Government.

The Gujarat Government said that it is extending its textile policy for one more year. The five-year term of the policy was to expire on September 4. But, now it shall remain under implementation till September 3, 2018. The industries and mining department issued the government resolution. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani approved the extension of the policy for one year.

Textile shop owners in Surat are an unhappy lot today, for they have been asked to pay property tax for the shelf space created inside the shops for storing the grey fabrics and finished stock.

The Textiles Ministry is positively working on the proposals for a Centre of Excellence (CoE) and a mega textile park at Surat, a hub for the man-made fabric industry in Gujarat.
