The Apparel Export Promotion Council seeks the Centre and state governments’ support in avoiding another lockdown. Textile exporters say another lockdown would mean failing to complete existing export orders.

The Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) has reached out to Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Finance Minister, for financial measures, like schemes and extensions, to help the apparel industry escape its current crisis state.

Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA) said that stopping textile units in Tamil Nadu during night hours and on Sundays would affect the production activities, exports and also the jobs of several lakhs of workers.

Despite being the second-largest textile manufacturer in the world, India faces many challenges and competition, which can be resolved with central government incentives, structural reforms and lower import duty.

Stating that the falling exports of cotton textiles is a matter of deep concern, The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (TEXPROCIL) has appealed to the government for policy support.
