Sometime in next few years, hopes are high that China’s overall cotton import levels may rise and may even be back to 16 million bales

Higher cotton production by Sindh and Punjab helped Pakistan improve its overall output by 7.16 per cent year-on-year up to December 31, according to the latest figures issued by the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association. Yet the production level remained lower than the official revised estimate of 12.6 million bales.

Recovery continues in cotton production for 2017-18 with a projected 11 per cent growth due to increased area to a projected 25.4 million tonne (MT).

The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) has procured about 5 lakh bales this season of which 4 lakh bales have been procured at minimum support price (MSP) and the remaining 1 lakh bales as part of its commercial operations, senior officials at the CCI said.
