India’s cotton yield has received a boost as 6.6 lakh bales (each weighing 140 kg) of cotton have been procured so far surpassing last year’s production figures of 6.5 lakh bales.

Higher production world over and increasing demand is the state of the cotton industry. On the day of inauguration of the 45th President of the United States, cotton industry people gathered in Lubbock, USA for the Plains Cotton Growers’ cotton meeting. The year 2016 has been phenomenal for cotton production in the High Plains of Texas and the production in this region is expected to be about 5.05 million bales.
The International Cotton Advisotry Committee (ICAC) Secretariat forecasts that the season-average Cotlook A Index in 2016/17 will range between 66 and 83 cts/lb, with a midpoint of 74 cts/lb, which would be 4 cts/lb higher than last season.
India expects to produce 35.1 million bales (170 kg) this season beginning in October. India’s official body, Cotton Advisory Board met in Mumbai and decided on this year’s first estimate of cotton production.
A new International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) report informs that world cotton production is projected to increase 6 per cent year over year to 22.5 million tons in 2015/16.
For the cotton season 2015-16, the Cotton Advisory Board (CAB) has revised the cotton production estimate. It now stands at 338 lakh bales as against its earlier estimates of 352 lakh bales.
