Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) has signed an MoU with the Tehran Garment Union (TGU), an influential manufacturers and retailers association with legislative power in terms of garment commercial affairs in Iran. The MoU signed during the recently-concluded 57th India International Garment Fair (IIGF) in New Delhi by Ashok G Rajani, Chairman, AEPC, and Mohamad Javad Sedghamiz, VP, TGU, will fuel efforts to promote bilateral trade and industrial cooperation in the textile and fashion sectors among Indian and Iranian partners.

The fiscal incentives in the package, which is expected to cost the ex-chequer an estimated Rs 6,000 crore, include enhanced duty drawback coverage with refund of State levies not being compensated so far, additional funding under the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS) and enhanced scope of income tax exemption under Section 80JJAA of the Income Tax Act.

India’s Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) has embarked on an exploratory visit to Iran to understand the market after removal of sanctions. A delegation under the stewardship of Ashok G Rajani, Chairman-AEPC and four executive committee members of the council visited Tehran recently.
