Sanjay Garg, president, North Indian Textile Mills’ Association, hailed the recommendation of DGTR to levy anti-dumping duty on viscose spun yarn. Garg also urged to levy anti-dumping duty on polyester spun yarn.

The Indian government has extended the anti-dumping duty (ADD) till December 31, 2020, on imports of fully oriented yarn or fully drawn, flat yarn of polyester (FDY) or spin drawn yarn, from Thailand and China, as per notification issued by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).

DGTR has recommended that continuation of the duty is required on imports of Acrylic Fibre from Thailand in view of the above conclusion.

The textile industry has been demanding for the abolition of anti-dumping duty (ADD) levied on PTA, the basic raw material used for the manufacture of polyester staple fibre and filaments, to remain globally competitive.

The Indian government has imposed an anti-dumping duty ranging between $128.06 per tonne and $719.44 per tonne for five years on import of nylon filament yarn from Vietnam and the European Union.
