Sales dip at Khadi Gram Udyog stores in Goa

Confusion following the nationwide implementation of GST seems to have impacted sales at the Central Government-run Khadi Gram Udyog outlets in Goa. Until now, all items sold at such outlets were exempted from taxation.

Contrary to what the name suggests, Khadi Gram Udyog stores sell a variety of products: from herbals soaps and facepacks to incense sticks, sarees and even the national flag. Although GST has been imposed on only some of the commodities they have on offer, the two outlets in the State are yet to receive an official directive regarding tax rates.

Their account books, in the meanwhile, indicate a significant dip in sales as the government employees manning the shops are confused about which items fall within the tax bracket and which do not.
