Roberto AzevOdo, who is the sixth Director-General of the WTO, has completed six years in the office. His appointment took effect on September 1, 2013 for a four-year term. He was in Bangalore recently to address CIIs Partnership Summit. He said: "The work has only just begun – and we have the chance to make 2014 the year that the Doha round is put back on track. It will not be easy, but it is achievable."
Ambassador AzevOdo holds degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Brasilia and in international relations from the "Instituto", the graduate school of international relations and diplomacy run by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Relations. He joined the Brazilian Foreign Service in 1984.
