The Maharashtra Textile Department has planned to offer packages for textile projects in Vidarbha region with a projected investment to the tune of Rs 1,800 crore with an aim to generate 15,000 jobs. Presently, around 500 tex-tile units have been started in the state and other projects are in the pipeline.

Around 14 textile parks are coming up in the state and expected to generate an additional 14,000 jobs with a possible investment of Rs 16,000 crore. The government´s new textile policy has evoked tremendous response from investors and industrial sector as well. Presently, textile parks have 580 units with an investment of Rs 3,931 crore in Maharashtra. The state government has started an on-line process for release of subsidy to the investors. The textile policy, unveiled last year, offers subsidy to units coming up in the farmers´ suicide-hit Vidarbha region, besides Marathwada and Khandesh.

The state produces around 90 lakh bales of cotton every year from Vidarbha, Marathwada and Khandesh areas. While some of it is consumed by industry within the state, the rest is procured by units outside the state or is exported.
