Agreement to strengthen data-driven analysis and evidence-based decision-making.

The Ministry of Textiles (MoT), Government of India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) to strengthen evidence-based policy research and data-driven decision-making in the textile and apparel sector.

The MoU was formalised during a signing ceremony held at GPOA 3, Netaji Nagar, New Delhi. The agreement was signed by Akhilesh Kumar, Deputy Director General, Ministry of Textiles, and Dr Shekhar Aiyar, Director and Chief Executive, ICRIER.

The partnership reflects the government’s focus on developing analytically robust and data-backed policies for the textile and apparel industry, which continues to be a key pillar of India’s manufacturing ecosystem, exports and employment generation.

Under the collaboration, ICRIER will provide research and technical support to the Ministry of Textiles, including strengthening textile sector data systems and undertaking policy-oriented analysis. The initiative is expected to support improved policy formulation by enabling better access to structured data and evidence-based insights across the textile value chain.

The Ministry said the MoU is aimed at ensuring that future textile sector policies are informed by credible research, stronger datasets and deeper analytical assessment of industry trends and challenges.
