Local garment makers target untapped global markets

Many local units have already ventured into exports, while others are actively seeking to enter international markets and require industry knowledge and support to do so effectively.

In an effort to tap into new domestic and international markets, readymade garment manufacturers from Indore are collaborating with the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) to showcase their products on joint platforms. Indore, known as a major hub for kidswear production, has a readymade garment sector valued at over Rs 10 billion. The local industry is now focusing on brand development and market expansion to scale its presence both within India and abroad.

CMAI, a leading industry body representing the Indian apparel sector, is working closely with Indore’s garment manufacturers to enhance business visibility and facilitate growth. As part of this initiative, a major garment fair is scheduled to be held in Mumbai in June, where several manufacturers from Indore will participate to exhibit their products to a wider audience, including potential buyers and industry stakeholders. The fair will also include business-to-business (B2B) meetings aimed at fostering partnerships and exploring export opportunities.

Recognising the growing competition in the domestic market, manufacturers are increasingly turning their attention to export potential and untapped markets. Many local units have already ventured into exports, while others are actively seeking to enter international markets and require industry knowledge and support to do so effectively.

Approximately 30 manufacturers from Indore have already confirmed participation in the upcoming Mumbai fair. Additionally, plans are underway to host another garment fair in Indore in July, where around 300 local manufacturers are expected to showcase their product lines. These initiatives are expected to significantly boost the visibility of Indore’s garment industry and provide a strong platform for business expansion.
