The state government is trying to improve
the marketing opportunities for power loom and handloom weavers, as per R
Gandhi, Handlooms and Textiles Minister, Tamil Nadu. He also pointed out the
presence of different segments in the textile industry in Coimbatore. At a
meeting in Tiruppur, he said that the state government is going to discuss the
demands and grievances presented by the weavers and textile industry in
Tiruppur in the meeting that will be held next month.

The minister also visited manufacturing
facilities and said that the DMK government has always tried to help the
weavers. He acknowledged the fact that the textile industry is important
because it generates employment.

It is believed that the Chief Minister of
the state is going to review a meeting for the textile and handloom department
wherein the issues faced by the weavers will be discussed. Also, the sector is
expected to experience a major development in the next six months.

The Minister also said that while the
garment export units are working at a capacity of 100% workforce, the domestic
units are functioning with just 33% workforce. He added by saying that with the
spread of the pandemic, the garment sector in Tiruppur has been adversely
affected and the industry has submitted its demands. The minister is hopeful
that these issues will also be studied. He even visited a Common Effluent
Treatment Plant and the Palladam Hi-Tech Weaving Park.
