Surat-based Southern Gujarat Chamber
of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) has submitted the expression of interest (EOI)
for setting up of the Export Promotion Council (EPC) for technical textiles,
with a view to accelerate the production and export of technical textiles.

The Ministry of Textiles recently issued
a public notice inviting proposals for setting up an Export Promotion Council
for technical textiles.
Constitution
of an EPC for technical textiles is part of one of the components of the
National Technical Textiles Mission.

Surat is an emerging hub for manmade
fibres (MMF) in India.  Ashish Gujarat,
Vice President, SGCCI, told a leading news agency, “SGCCI intends to take a
lead role in setting up EPC for technical textiles in Surat. We have all the
infrastructure and manpower required to run the EPC. Surat is the biggest
centre of MMF with 13,500 million metres of fabric production per annum.”

The
exporter associations and trade bodies registered under Companies Act or
Society Registration Act have been asked to submit proposal to the ministry for
constitution of a dedicated EPC for technical textiles by 15th December 2020.
