Palamu administration is in touch with Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC), a body which is attached to the Ministry of Textiles Government of India and acts as a major player in marketing of the carpets made in India, to set up handmade carpet weaving units in Jharkhand. DC Palamu Shashi Ranjan said he had a word with the chief of CEPC Sanjay Kumar who happens to be the son of the soil about the plan to set up a handmade carpet weaving unit at village Bansdeeh Khurd under Ramgarh block.

Ranjan said CEPC has assured the district officials all help and cooperation in finding and establishing adequate and suitable market for our handmade carpets. Ranjan said, “Three things are important- buyers, working capital and artisans. We have sufficient number of artisans with us and for working capital banks will be approached and for buyers we have knocked at the door of CEPC already.”

DC said another most vital thing is infrastructure which the government is determined to build in the shortest of time like roof and floor for looms, drinking water, sanitation, electricity etc. The DC said, “Honestly speaking our officers here have no idea as to how to go about setting up handmade carpet weaving unit. We have been told of one such unit working in Garhwa district.”

Ranjan added, “I have asked DDC Palamu to send a few personnel there to study the finer points of setting up and running this handmade carpet weaving loom here.”
