9 textile labs to match Japanese standards

Nine textile laboratories in India will be upgraded to match Japanese quality and compliance standards to improve textile exports to Japan, says KS Muralidhara, Joint Director – Laboratories, Textile Committee, Government of India.

Nine textile laboratories in India will be upgraded to match Japanese quality and compliance standards to improve textile exports to Japan, says KS Muralidhara, Joint Director – Laboratories, Textile Committee, Government of India.
Muralidhara said of the 19 textile laboratories in the country, 9 have been selected for upgrade in Tamil Nadu, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Ludhiana and New Delhi. He said the capacity building programme is an attempt to understand Japanese market better and enhance competitiveness. Recently, the Textile Committee of India has signed an MoU with Japanese Textile Products Quality and Technology Centre (QTEC). Following that, two officials from QTEC are visiting nine laboratories across the country.
Kei Funaki, Asean and South Asia Regional Manager, QTEC, said Japan is looking to increase its import from other Asean countries like India. Japan accounts for 2.5 per cent of Indian textile exports estimated at $ 40 billion.
