Karl Mayer launches two new HKS EL ECO machines for faster production
New tricot machines boost speed, pattern range and cost efficiency.
Karl Mayer is strengthening its leadership in the tricot segment with the launch of two new warp knitting machines—the HKS 3-M EL ECO and HKS 4-M EL ECO—designed to meet the industry’s growing need for fast pattern changes, flexible production and higher profitability. With shorter development cycles and rising demand for small-batch efficiency in the global fashion and apparel market, the new models expand the company’s successful HKS platform equipped with the EL electronic guide bar control system.

Michael Ahrendt, Product Owner – Global Tricot at Karl Mayer, said the HKS brand has long represented the highest standards in warp knitting technology worldwide. The EL system, which allows unlimited repeat lengths and pattern changes at the touch of a button, has been a hallmark of the range for 35 years. Since late 2025, all three- and four-bar HKS machines featuring the EL system now carry “EL†in their model names.
The HKS 3-M EL ECO, positioned as an economical entry point into EL-based knitting, brings the core strengths of the premium HKS 3-M EL (previously HKS 3-M ON) to a wider market at a significantly lower cost. It is the first three-bar HKS EL model available in widths up to 370 inches. While slightly slower than the premium version, it maintains high fabric quality and reliability. Its extended shogging distance of 9–34 mm and optional multi-speed enable larger patterns, bold textures, and plush or 3D effects, making it suitable for automotive interiors, sportswear, outerwear, upholstery and velour applications. Initial sales have already been secured in South America.

The HKS 4-M EL ECO, showcased at ITMA ASIA 2025, attracted strong interest for its speed, flexibility and affordability. With a 2-inch shogging distance for all four guide bars, multi-speed options and advanced EL control, the machine is ideal for rapid design changes and diverse product variants. Fashion producers, in particular, welcomed its ability to respond quickly to shifting trends and material requirements.
