July ’23 sees continued drop in textile and apparel shipments

The numbers were $ 1,381 million in July 2022 and $ 1,141 million in the last month.

The exports of textiles and apparel had experienced a decline of 1.9 per cent and 17.37 per cent respectively in July this year when compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

The cumulative export of textiles and apparel during the April-July 2023 period had undergone a decrease of 13.74 per cent as compared to the same period last year.

According to the data shared by the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI), it was indicated that there had been a growth of 6.62 per cent in cotton yarn, fabrics, and made-ups in July 2023, as opposed to July 2022. However, negative growth was observed in the shipment of manmade yarn, fabrics, and made-ups, jute products, carpets, handicrafts, and apparel items.

The total value of textile products that were shipped in the previous month had amounted to $ 1,663 million, which was in contrast to the figure of $ 1,695 million for the same month the previous year. In terms of apparel exports, the numbers were $ 1,381 million in July 2022 and $1,141 million in the last month.
