Indian Textile Accessories And Machinery Manufacture Association (ITAMMA) announced that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) virtually with Fabric & Apparel Accessory Manufacturers’ Association (FAAMA).FAAMA represents over thirty of Sri Lanka’s leading producers of clothing, accessories, and fabrics, was highlighted.
It was noted that most Sri Lankan textile entrepreneurs and businesses are involved in the garment industry, which imports yarn from other countries and processes it using flat or circular knitting machines. As a result, there are numerous opportunities to expand weaving capacity and explore woven fabric as an alternative for products such as bed linens, curtains, and other household textiles. This initiative is expected to pave the way for the industry’s future involvement in technical textile production.
Through the MoU, ITAMMA and FAAMA will collaborate to develop a “Weaving Plant Project model” specifically for the Sri Lankan garment industry, aiming to provide strong backward integration by ensuring an in-house supply of woven fabric for the sector.
