India Inc mourns Kalam – (1931-2015)

Known as the Missile Man of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, the 11th President of India, played a pivotal organisational, technical, and political role in India´s Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998, the first since the original nuclear test by India in 1974.

Indian industry condoled the demise of former President APJ Abdul Kalam describing his death as an irreparable loss to the nation.

Textile sector entrepreneurs in Tirupur knitwear cluster paid tributes to former president APJ Abdul Kalam who died in Shillong on July 27.

In separate functions organised, businessmen affiliated to Sripuram Trust, formed of different stakeholders in textiles sector, and South India Hosiery Manufacturers Association remembered the contributions made by Dr Kalam both as an administrator and as a scientist. The industrialists recollected the simplicity of Dr Kalam even after he travelled to the Rashtrapathi Bhavan.

¨His death is an irreparable loss to the nation as he has left a big void that is difficult to fill,¨ PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Alok B Shriram said. As President of India, Kalam was immensely popular and greatly admired by all sections of society, including India Inc with which he consistently shared his economic vision and landscape for the country and thus commanded a great respect from it also, said Shriram.

Recollecting Kalam´s efforts to help India reach ¨greater heights in the world of innovation, technology and self reliance¨, ASSOCHAM president Rana Kapoor said he gave a ¨new dimension to Rashtrapati Bhawan as he became the people´s president with whom every Indian, be it a child, student, farmer, scientist or industrialist could identify himself or herself.¨
