Huntsman’s lighthall facility awarded with Platinum rating
Huntsman’s Mumbai facility received ‘platinum’ rating under the IGBC Green Interiors Rating System for its multiple sustainable practices adopted inclusive of its superior energy conservation, water saving, and waste management systems.
Huntsman, the global manufacturer and marketer of differentiated chemicals, was awarded the prestigious LEED Platinum certification by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) for its Lighthall Research and Development and corporate office in Mumbai.
Huntsman’s Mumbai facility received ‘platinum’ rating under the IGBC Green Interiors Rating System for its multiple sustainable practices adopted inclusive of its superior energy conservation, water saving, and waste management systems. The facility uses LED lighting, efficient HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) electrical systems and natural lighting to minimise use of artificial lights to save energy. For water conservation, low flow fixtures have been installed across the site. In addition to this, lab contaminated water and sewage water are treated at the in-house effluent treatment plant (ETP) and sewage treatment plant, and reused for gardening and flushing purposes, respectively. The facility also has an efficient waste management system inclusive of waste reduction and segregation practices, as well as the recycle and reuse of dry waste as manure. In addition to these measures, more than 1,000 indoor plants have been placed to enhance air quality inside the facility, and a 4,000 sq ft green belt of CO2 absorbing evergreen trees has been developed in the vicinity. The company also provides bus services with strategic routes for the employees’ commute, thus reducing reliance on private vehicles.
Commenting on the LEED platinum rating, Rajib Kumar, HR – Head, India Subcontinent, Huntsman Corporation, said, “Sustainability is at the core of our business practices. The platinum rating is a true testament to our sustainable practices, and how our workplaces have been designed to conform to the highest standards of environmental performance. We will continue to work towards improving our energy saving, water conservation and waste management practices, thereby further optimising our sustainability practices.â€
The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system is an internationally recognised green building certification program for buildings and communities designed and operated for improved human health and environmental performance.
