Digital transformation process accelerates in textiles

At ACIMIT’s general assembly, it was discussed that the Covid-19
pandemic has adversely affected the textile machinery sector, and the ways to
relaunch the industry were also discussed. The association representing the
Italian textile machinery manufacturers took this assembly as an opportunity to
bring to notice what the industry has lost in 2020. In the same year, the
production of textile machinery in Italy fell by 22% as compared to last year
while on the other hand, the exports dropped by 21%. The production in the
first and second half of 2020 dropped completely while the second half of the
year saw a partial recovery. Not only this, travel restrictions during the
pandemic have also negatively affected the performance of the industry. The
companies are still not allowed to seize the opportunities created by a
recovery of the textile sector.

According to Alessandro Zucchi, President, ACIMIT, the first half of
2021 gives hope that the overall economic condition will improve in terms of
both exports and growth in the domestic market in Italy. The resumption of
trade fair events is also a positive sign for businesses. He also said that
pandemic has also given a chance to the companies to understand the urgency of
enacting a digital transformation of their businesses. This is the main reason
why ACIMIT has accelerated its Digital Label project to integrate the business
of the clients with the operating systems. The project will also allow
certifying Italian textile machinery to adopt a common set of data.

He further added that the competitive edge of each company will also
depend on the level of digitalization which will further allow an elevation in
the production and organizational processes. The aim of ACIMIT is to achieve
this digital certification.

The general assembly also declared that Alessandro Zucchi, who is CEO and partner of the
company Ferraro, will serve as the president of ACIMIT for two more years. The
group also confirmed Federico Businaro as vice president (Santex Rimar Group),
Federico Businaro as vice president (Santex Rimar Group), Cristian Locatelli
(Marzoli, Camozzi Group), and Andrea Piattelli (Unitech). Ugo Ghilardi is the
elected VP for the first time.

At the end of the general assembly, a historic group of associated
machinery producers were awarded by ACIMIT who have been a part of the
association since its foundation in 1945. These companies include Savio, Zonco,
Reggiani, Sant’Andrea, O.C.T.I.R., Crosta, Gaudino, Mezzera (a brand owned by
Reggiani), Noseda, and Marzoli. They are there with the association since its
inception.
