If the compressed air is not dry, then there will be corrosion in compressed air pipeline, pneumatic tools and systems, which can lead to their malfunctioning. The only positive means of moisture removal is the installation of compressed air dryers.

In most cases, refrigeration dryers are suitable where application requires ADP up to -20°C (-4°F). Refrigeration dryers are low in first cost, operating cost and energy consumption, making them the most cost-effective solution for drying for general instrumentation and controls.

Refrigeration dryer operates on the method of cooling the air near to freezing point to remove the moisture and reheating it to approximately 10°C below the incoming compressed air temperature at nominal conditions. It is designed for just the right quality of air at the most economical costs. It has wide instrumentation air where requirement is between 3°C PDP to 6°C PDP.

The dryer uses less energy and hence the low operating cost. The FDI series of air dryers are a packaged self contained unit, fully automatic and produces a steady level of dewpoint. They are available in 28 standard models, with capacities from 10.6 CFM to 6,000 CFM. It provides atmospheric dew point down to approximately -20°C.
