Organic cotton is now being grown in Colombia for the first time, thanks to a pioneering project initiated by German company, La Siesta, which has been manufacturing hammocks using organic cotton since 2008. Organic cotton has been grown in Latin America since the 1990s, starting in Peru, and is also grown in Brazil, Paraguay and in central America, Nicaragua.
For 2015 third quarter the textile machinery exports from Italy declined slightly (-2 per cent), with external orders especially falling.
Chinese cotton imports reached an all-time low in September, as large domestic inventories reduced reliance on foreign supplies, at a time when economic slowdown is weighing on demand. China imported just 50,900 tonnes of cotton in September, a decline of 59 per cent YoY. This is the lowest monthly import since records began in 2005, and the second month of record low imports in a row.

In a significant textile industry move, the RITE Group and NICE (Nordic Initiative Clean and Ethical) have signed a joint Memorandum of Understanding which will see the two parties cooperate closely to more effectively address environmental issues in the global textile value chain.
