MAJOR retailers are backing the Cotton Egypt Association’s drive to rid the supply chain of falsely labelled Egyptian Cotton™ goods. John Lewis and Dunelm, have voiced support for CEA’s new rigorous accreditation process and ability to DNA test products, and say they will continue to insist suppliers adhere to the new standard.

Wacker Chemie AG has opened a new production site for silicone elastomers in South Korea. The plant is located around 100 km southeast of Seoul at Jincheon, where the Group has already been producing silicone sealants since 2010 and speciality silicones for the electronics industry since 2012. In moving to the new site, WACKER is significantly expanding its production and therefore its position as a leading silicone manufacturer in the region. Some €15 million have been invested in the new production site.

The Swiss textile innovator HeiQ has launched an upgraded version of its popular dynamic cooling technology HeiQ Smart Temp. Based on an instant cooling hydro functional polymer, this patent pending technology provides activated cooling to the wearer for enhanced performance and thermal comfort. Inhouse thermoregulation performance measurements of a treated fabric revealed a 1.5°C to 2.5°C (2.7°F to 4.5°F) cooler skin temperature compared to an untreated fabric. During the Performance Days Munich, the upgraded HeiQ Smart Temp technology can be experienced on high-tech sports fabrics by Pontetorto and Tessitura Taiana Virgilio.

Experimentation with cotton in the International Space Station has received a big boost.

Target Corporation has committed to 100 per cent sustainable cotton by 2022. This effort is getting a boost from target by providing huge sums of money towards sustainability of cotton.

The International Space Station cotton sustainability challenge programme sponsored by Target and supported by the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASS) recently selected three projects.

Uster Technologies AG has announced the successful closing of the acquisition of Elbit Vision Systems Ltd (EVS), a world-leading high-technology supplier for automated vision inspection in the textile industry. This expands Uster’s competencies in quality control and strengthens its product portfolio. EVS’s products are used to automatically locate, label and trace defects of fabric and web products, and ultimately to grade the quality and determine the value of the produced goods.
