An infographic view of fashion trend and forecasting evolution
Fashion forecasting has refined itself in the previous two decades to become categorically specific and futuristic. In this article, Prof Kislaya Choudhary, Aditi Sharma and Pankti Patel of NIFT Mumbai explore the evolution of trend and forecasting landscape starting from the 17th century till its present form and post COVID-19 scenario.
Fashion can be considered as an idiosyncratic and insightful tool to present the socio-economic aspects. Fashion forecasting has refined itself in the previous two decades to become categorically specific and futuristic and has evolved from being a trend report service to a holistic service and design tool. COVID-19 has changed business dynamics and the approach to fashion forecasting; therefore, there is a need to take a close look at the fundamental approach to fashion through study of trend & forecasting services, their resilience and evolution. This research paper explores the evolution of trend and forecasting landscape starting from the 17th century till its present form and post COVID-19 scenario. The paper also takes an analytical view on how the commercial space of fashion trends and forecasting services has evolved during the passage of decades and the significant milestone developments in the field.
Global voices and key trends have been analysed from various trend and forecasting services and journals promoting and expressing fashion trends and aspirations. Global fashion trends and forecast services evolution have been researched from pre-and post-COVID scenarios. A summarised infographic view of evolution of fashion trend forecasting through the decades is presented as a key reference for the fashion stakeholders.
