Running for the next 6–9 months, the campaign aims to create awareness about India’s rich textile heritage and reposition domestic textiles.

The Ministry of Textiles has launched the Swadeshi Campaign to strengthen domestic demand for Indian handloom, handicrafts, and textile products. Running for the next 6–9 months, the campaign aims to create awareness about India’s rich textile heritage and reposition domestic textiles as symbols of pride, style, and national identity, especially among urban millennials and Gen Z.

Key Objectives:

  • Stimulate Domestic Demand: Drive higher consumption of textiles and apparel across urban and youth segments.
  • Empower Producers & MSMEs: Expand market access, visibility, and income opportunities for weavers, artisans, and textile MSMEs.
  • Align with Atmanirbhar Bharat: Integrate with initiatives like PLI for Textiles, PM MITRA Parks, and ODOP.
  • Institutional Procurement: Encourage ministries, PSUs, and educational institutions to adopt Indian-made textiles in uniforms and furnishings.

The campaign will leverage events, social media, and active participation from state governments to promote Indian textiles nationwide.

India’s textile and apparel market was valued at $179 billion in 2024, growing at over 7 per cent annually. Household consumption contributes 58 per cent of the domestic market (CAGR 8.19 per cent), while non-household consumption accounts for 21 per cent (CAGR 6.79 per cent). Recent GST reforms are expected to further boost demand.

With ongoing government initiatives and campaigns like Swadeshi, domestic textile demand is projected to grow at 9–10 per cent CAGR, reaching $250 billion by 2030.
