Itema Lays First Stone of New Manufacturing Site in Ponte Nossa
Itema embarked on a vision to revitalise the mountain area, restore an industrial landmark of the Seriana Valley, and establish a world-class production hub for weaving machinery and solutions.
Itema Group marked a significant milestone with the ceremonial laying of the first stone for its new manufacturing site in Ponte Nossa. The area, formerly home to Cotonificio Cantoni, has remained unused since 2004.
Following the acquisition of the site in July 2022, Itema embarked on a vision to revitalise the mountain area, restore an industrial landmark of the Seriana Valley, and establish a world-class production hub for weaving machinery and solutions.
The project is structured in multiple phases, focusing on industrial requalification, sustainable and circular design, and operational efficiency enhancements across production and engineering activities. Step 1, which officially commenced with the first stone ceremony, involves the construction of a new manufacturing plant to boost the production capacity of Itema’s weaving business, with completion expected by 2027.

The Ponte Nossa site will also support future developments for Lamiflex SpA.
Ugo Ghilardi, CEO of Itema Group, said, “In 2022, we decided to embark on a journey to strengthen our global position and reinforce our brand, recognised worldwide as an ambassador of ‘Made in Italy’. This new site in Ponte Nossa reflects our commitment to process and production innovation, and will complement our historic Colzate facility. Our goal is to create value locally while competing globally.”
Maurizio Radici, President of Itema Group’s Board of Directors, added, “We are proud to continue our textile journey in the Seriana Valley, the cradle of our history. This new manufacturing hub is where vision, innovation, and sustainability converge, representing our investment in a cutting-edge future for the territory.”
The Ponte Nossa site, which will also support future developments for Lamiflex SpA, underlines Itema Group’s commitment to remain a strong industrial presence in Bergamo and across Italy, while serving as a forward-looking partner for weaving mills worldwide.
