ATDC workshop stresses workers’ skills

With the aim of upgrading knowledge base and skill levels of personnel of the apparel industry along with ATDC faculty resources, the Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC), India’s largest vocational training provider for the apparel sector, has organised a two-day long workshop on ‘Apparel Product-Quality Assurance’. The workshop was conducted recently at ATDC Hub Faridabad.

With the aim of upgrading knowledge base and skill levels of personnel of the apparel industry along with ATDC faculty resources, the Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC), India’s largest vocational training provider for the apparel sector, has organised a two-day long workshop on ‘Apparel Product-Quality Assurance’. The workshop was conducted recently at ATDC Hub Faridabad. The valedictory address was delivered by the Chief Guest Anu Garg, IAS, Joint Secretary, (Skill Development) Ministry of Textiles, who also distributed ISDS certificates to the candidates of ATDC Faridabad.

The valedictory ceremony also witnessed a panel discussion on “Quality and Compliance for Apparel Industry”. Among the group of panelists were eminent personalities like Dr KK Sharma, CEO, Megatech Corporation & Chairman NISTI; Vijay Kaul, Ex-Regional Director, Target USA; and Amit Saluja, Sr Lab Manager, Rheinland TUV (India). Their wide experience and knowledge acquainted the participants with the topical issues governing quality and compliance in global trade.

The purpose was to train the professionals in a manner that they are able to bring improvement in their product line, to offer quality products as per the consumer’s demands. There were about 22 participants including 18 industry professionals from leading brands like Black Berry, Pearl Academy, Neetee Clothing, Mohan Trading, etc.

ATDC Faridabad and Ballabhgarh students of Sewing Machine Operator (SMO) and SMART CAD were given ISDS Certificates by Chief Guest Garg. While addressing the gathering, Garg, said, “The textile policy announced was a longstanding demand of the industry. It is expected to create 1 crore jobs in the next three years, that means there would be a huge requirement of skilled labour and as we talk of skilled labour we talk of institutions like ATDC and its students.” Training of trainers is an integral part of upcoming schemes. When She further added, “These training camps should not be taken as fun activities or recreation, they are of much importance as they not only rejuvenate us, but also acquaint us with new technologies and developments in the field.” Her words were enriching for the attendees and instilled in them a motivation to improve the quality of the products manufactured by their companies. Dr Darlie Koshy, DG & CEO, ATDC, expressed his elation on the successful completion of the workshop. He said, “ATDC-TOT has always played vital role in training ATDC’s internal teaching resources and industry trainers. Advanced and customised training programmes of ATDC-TOT Academics have been widely appreciated by leading apparel brands and well known International brands like Zara, which have made use of ATDC’s customised training programmes.”

“The quality of training provided by ATDC ToT Academy is much appreciated by everyone and will certainly help us to grow and enhance our skills,” said Sushil Tripathi, Production manager, Blackberrys.

This workshop was professionally designed so that the participants could understand their roles and responsibilities, and also learn the best practices from leading experts of the apparel industry. They were enlightened that they should focus on the quality that is delivered to the customers, and that without it one cannot contribute to the growth of the organisation.
