Co-optex sets new record in sales

State-run Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers’ Cooperative Society Ltd (Co-optex) posted an all-time high retail sales turnover of Rs 313.38 crore in 2015-16, the State Assembly was informed recently.
According to OS Manian, Handlooms and Textiles Minister, Co-optex sold handloom and powerloom products worth Rs 313.38 crore during the year 2015-16. “This sale (including exports) was higher by Rs 7.87 crore than previous year. Co-optex created a record for the highest ever retail sale during 2015-16,” he said.
Stating that the garment sector was a growing segment in the textile industry in the state, Manian said of the 13,000 hosiery units in the country, 2,500 were located in Tiruppur in the State. The total export turnover from Tiruppur was Rs 23,500 crore in 2015-16, he noted.
Silk and cotton sarees and dhotis are among the products sold by Co-Optex which has showrooms across the State and also in select cities, including New Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai and Panaji, outside.
