The Textile Institute Council has invited Muharrem Kayhan, member of the Institute and Chairman of the Board of Söktas to be World President Elect. On 14 May 2015 at The Textile Institute Annual General Meeting its members will be requested to vote Muharrem Kayhan in as the next World President for the period of 2015-2017.
Born in 1955 in Izmir, Kayhan was educated at St Joseph French School and Robert College of Istanbul. He got his Engineering Degree in Textiles in 1976 from the University of Manchester in England. He received his MBA from Cornell University in 1978. Kayhan is presently Chairman of the Board of Söktas. The company produces shirting fabrics in Turkey and India and has investments in the dairy sector. He has represented the interests of the Turkish textile industry in various European Union platforms while serving on the Boards of the Aegean Chamber of Industry, the Exporters´ Union, and the Turkish Textile Employers´ Union of which he is currently President. He has served as the Chairman of TÜSIAD.
