The Flag
Foundation of India (FFI) and An IIT Delhi start-up have collaborated with each
other for developing advanced textiles for tricolour. A MoU has been signed
regarding the same.

The start-up called “SWATRIC” is going to conduct d
research and development activities to execute the same. According to a senior
official of IIT Delhi, the Supreme Court of India has declared in 2004 that the
right to fly the national flag freely, with respect and dignity it is a basic
fundamental right. He also said that since the climate of India is tropical, it
is a big challenge to design and develop engineered fabric for the flag. He
also explained that the material of the flag should be such that it is
compatible with the extreme weather conditions and is not very heavy too.

According to Bipin Kumar, Professor, The Textile and Fibre
Engineering Department, IIT Delhi, it is important that the quality of the flag
fabric should be improved by helping the manufacturers with proper knowledge on
the core subject and standardization.

According to Major General (retired) Ashim Kohli, CEO, Flag
Foundation of India, the foundation has always faced the challenge of obtaining
good quality flags. He also said that the foundation is excited to work with
the team of IIT Delhi who is developing appropriate
technologies to make a proper flag.
